Democracy doesn't
defend itself, Act Now.

NOT OK exists because some lines should never be crossed—and because democracies don’t defend themselves. You don’t need to quit your job, join a party, or argue online to make a difference.
You just need to act.Below are meaningful actions you can take—right now—based on the time you have.

4 Things You Can Do

Choose an action that fits your time and energy. Every action counts.

Make Your Voice Official

Authoritarian systems thrive when institutions stop hearing from ordinary people. Elected officials still respond to voters if they think they care enough to vote. Calls, letters, and records still matter—especially when they’re calm and specific:

ICE / Masked Federal Forces

Regardless of policy views, armed government agents operating without visible identification undermine public trust, escalate fear, and violate long-standing democratic norms. In a constitutional democracy, the authority to detain or use force must always be transparent, identifiable, and accountable.

Justice Department Independence

The legitimacy of our legal system rests on one foundational principle: the law must be applied equally, without regard to political loyalty, personal relationships, or power. Any use—or perceived use—of prosecutorial authority for political retaliation or protection is incompatible with democratic governance.

Corruption & Abuse of Office

Public office is a public trust. When officials exploit their positions—financially, politically, or personally—it erodes confidence in government and weakens democratic legitimacy. Ethical norms that go unenforced quickly become meaningless.

Freedom of Speech & Press

A free society depends on the ability of journalists, citizens, and institutions to criticize those in power without fear of retaliation. Government efforts—direct or indirect—to intimidate, delegitimize, or punish lawful expression are incompatible with constitutional democracy.

Election Integrity

Free and fair elections are the foundation of constitutional government. Efforts to undermine election administration, intimidate election workers, or cast doubt on legitimate outcomes without evidence threaten the peaceful transfer of power itself.

You don’t need to shout. You just need to be counted.

Defend the System That Defends

You

r voting rights, courts, a free press, and the peaceful transfer of power are not abstract ideals.
They are systems—built by people, sustained by participation, and weakened by neglect. You can help by:
